Don’t you hate it when everyone else gets to eat those yummy Lindt Easter bunnies and Lindor balls at Easter? You know, while you’re busy Googling “Are Lindor truffles gluten-free?” to see if you can enjoy them too…only to find out that the ones in front of you are not, and you’re out of luck?
So, why aren’t all Lindor truffles gluten-free?
Barley is the short answer to this question. You’re probably wondering, “What do you mean by “barley?” There are no grains in this chocolate! So the answer to the “Are Lindor truffles gluten-free” search should be a resounding yes!”
Welllllllll……sometimes.
As you may have noted there is no barley, as in “barley soup barley” or “ground up crunchy barley”, in the texture of these super-yum truffles. But most Lindor balls (and all Lindt milk chocolate in any form except oat milk that I can see) do contain malt. Malt is made from barley, giving most Lindt/Lindor milk chocolates an extra dimension in the flavor profile. Here, I talk about a scary ingredient that’s not so scary, but unfortunately, the scary barley malt is legitimately scary.
I know. So not fair!
Lindt used to have nothing gluten-free except for the white chocolate and dark chocolate. If you wanted their creamy milk chocolate or other offerings, it was too bad/so sad. They have since improved their offerings, and you can have a couple more choices.
Just not the regular milk chocolate.
But I want milk chocolate truffle balls, so what should I do?
Unless you like non-dairy oat milk, you’ll have to avoid Lindt/Lindor products. But I’ve found the most amazing dupe! So, are Lindor truffles gluten-free? It’s not important anymore when you have these melt-in-your-mouth, super-luscious Ecuadorian chocolate truffles from Alter Eco.
They are ridiculously good. At this point, I really wish I could tell you that this post is sponsored or that they sent me a free product, but they did not. I stumbled upon them at the grocery store, but as part of the Celiac Friends Responsibility Code (not a real thing, but damn, I should write one!), I had to share them with you!
Best of all? They have that lovely malty taste that might completely unnerve you with how Lindor-y they are, but they are perfectly safe and completely gluten-free! So have a beautiful Easter or Passover, and enjoy these truffle ball chocolates!
Happy Eating! x
