Richest Chocolate Devotion Protein Mousse

Avocados, chocolate, and protein, oh my! Recently, I was sent a lovely care package of protein powders and Flex Flavors flavor sachets to try from Devotion Nutrition, a New Jersey-based fitness nutrition company with a rather unique twist on the usual protein-shake concept.

The short version is they have two flavors of the protein powder (that you can select either Stevia or Sucralose sweetened), with the tantalizing names of Angel Food Cake (vanilla) and Brownie Batter (chocolate).  And they’re both gluten-free!  The protein powder’s basic flavors can then be enhanced or changed with one or more of  10 Flex Flavors varieties (5 Fruity, 5 Dessert flavors), which come in single-serving sachets.  You can bake or make ice cream with the protein powder too.

Since I’m trying to get into better shape but have never really liked drinking protein shakes, this sounded like it had more potential. I got started with trying to make their ice cream, which they call Protein Fluff.  Note:  you need a high-powered blender or a food processor to make Protein Fluff. Sadly, my Magic Bullet didn’t cut it, but I did enjoy my failed attempt using the Angel Food Cake with the Raspberry FlexFlavors sachet as a smoothie bowl. Even alone, Angel Food Cake smells heavenly!

Since I suck at baking, I thought I’d try something a little different with the Brownie Batter protein powder and make an avocado-based chocolate mousse like all those recipes that have been making the rounds on Pinterest. If you’ve never tried it before, I can imagine that you probably think it would taste gross. I mean, who says, “Yay! Let’s have some healthy fats and fiber for dessert!”?  But it’s not gross at all.  The avocado is so mild tasting that the chocolate powder overpowers it immediately. And if you can enjoy a rich, decadent dessert that’s ridiculously simple and so intensely chocolatey that you’re completely sated by a small portion–and it’s good for you!–why not?

I wanted to try the Creme Brûlée Flex Flavors sachet, because I thought chocolate-Creme Brûlée would be kick-ass. My husband REALLY wanted  strawberry-chocolate mousse.  I made the strawberry.  I’m such a good wife….sometimes…..

How beautiful is this? And 5.5 grams of protein a serving! It is seriously rich. You could even serve it it shot glasses for mini desserts…mini guilt-free desserts 🙂 I’m sure that I will have more adventures experimenting with my Devotion Nutrition sample pack.  But since this recipe turned out so well, I’ll just be content to sit on my laurels for today!

(Note: I was provided with the product, with no strings attached, but the recipe and all opinions/observations are my own. And yes, I really do like Devotion Nutrition and Flex Flavors, and will buy them when my samples run out! For Canadians, I would suggest that you see if you can have it sent to the US, as Canadian shipping is….uh….kind of pricey…).
